About the ICSVPAC
The Idaho Central Spokane Valley Performing Arts Center (ICSVPAC) publicly announced plans to build a multi-million state-of-the-art performing arts center. The 59,000 square foot facility will house a 480+ seat Main Stage Theatre, a 200-seat flexible Studio Theatre, an Acting Conservatory for area youth, as well as event/business meeting space. Groundbreaking took place August of 2022, and the Idaho Central Spokane Valley Performing Arts Center hopes to open its doors for its first theater production in 2024.
Plans for the ICSVPAC were sparked by the success of Spokane Valley Summer Theatre (SVST), which will become the resident theater company at the facility. Since its founding in 2016, SVST has produced high quality summer musical theatre, while setting new attendance records annually. Executive Artistic Director Yvonne A.K. Johnson says building the Idaho Central Spokane Valley Performing Arts Center will not only give Spokane Valley Summer Theatre a permanent home but will also be a beacon of light for the performing arts in general, as well as give the region a space that will have multiple uses. The stunning building will benefit the region not only artistically, but economically, injecting an estimated $32 dollars into the local economy per dollar spent on live theatre into the region.
FAQ About the ICSVPAC
The Conservatory is the educational programming component of ICSVPAC. It serves regional youth in areas of the general performing arts (workshops, classes, summer camps, family showcases/performances, etc.) The Conservatory program will benefit approximately 700+ students annually in the ICSVPAC facility. It will offer 35-50 classes and camps for after school and summer programming.
The NEA (National Endowment for the Arts) estimates that for every $1 spent on live theatre, $33 dollars are injected into the regional economy. SVST is currently drawing patrons from Missoula to Moses Lake, Canada to northern Oregon, and beyond. SVST currently draws almost a third of its patrons from outside the cities of Spokane/Spokane Valley, and 14% from out of state. This new state-of-the-art facility will have a tremendous impact on hospitality and tourism. It is centrally located in the Inland Northwest, right in the heart of the phenomenal growth along the I-90 corridor, and easily reached by patrons coming from any direction.
SVST/ICSVPAC Building Design Committee under the direction of Executive Artistic Director, Yvonne A.K. Johnson. They worked diligently with NAC Architects for the past three years to design this stunning, multi-functional visual and technical masterpiece. The General Contractor is Garco Construction.
A ground-breaking ceremony occurred August 13, 2022, and construction begins in September 2022. SVST plans on assuming occupancy of the ICSVPAC in 2024, with the first professional mainstage production opening that year.
All in, the cost of construction this new facility is approximately $48 million dollars.
